Natural Estrogen with Pomegranate Extract contains scientifically-validated phytoestrogens and other plant extracts which have been shown to provide an array of health benefits for women. A review of the published literature reveals some interesting findings about how natural phytonutrients such as those derived from pomegranates, cruciferous vegetables, soybeans and others can provide safe and effective support to ease the symptoms associated with menopause.29-48 Derived from organically grown fruit, the pomegranate extract in the Natural Estrogen formula has the same ratio of polyphenols found in the whole fruit and provides the benefits one would get from the juice without the sugar, calories, and additives. Punicalagins, the main polyphenol responsible for pomegranate’s health properties, have been shown to be a powerful antioxidant.49 In fact, the health effects from the juice and the seeds work synergistically, providing an array of health benefits. Cruciferous vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, etc.) are a rich source of glucosinolates and their hydrolysis products, including indoles and isothiocyanates. Scientists have identified specific extracts from cruciferous vegetables that modulate hormones in a way to help maintain healthy cell division.50 For instance, animal studies have shown that the cruciferous vegetable extract indole-3-carbinol (I3C) modulates estrogen hormones by favorably changing the ratio of protective 2-hydroxyestrone versus the damaging 16-hydroxyestrone.51 Found abundantly in broccoli, I3C also induces phase I and II detoxifying enzymes that can help neutralize estrogen metabolites and xenobiotic estrogen-like environmental chemicals.52 Human studies support the beneficial role of I3C in positively altering estrogen metabolism.53-55 Di-indolyl-methane (DIM), a compound produced by the body as the result of the conversion of I3C, has been shown in animal studies to help maintain normal levels of a potentially damaging estrogen called 4-hydroxyestrone.56 The glucosinolates have been shown to promote normal apoptosis and induce the expression of the beneficial p53 gene via an estrogen-independent action.57 HMRlignan™ is a naturally occurring plant lignan; its major component, 7-hydroxymatairesinol, is a precursor to enterolactone, converted by human colonic bacteria, which has been suggested to be the prime active compound acting to protect the body from excess estrogen and its unwanted effects.58 Enterolactone may also limit excess cell growth in specific tissues59-62 and has also been linked to beneficial effects in menopausal women.63-69 In addition, HMRlignan™ is a powerful antioxidant and free radical scavenger against DNA damage and lipid peroxidation.70 Also included in the formula is a soy extract — SoySelect® — that provides genistein in a double standardized isoflavones and Group-B saponin compound. The combination of the phytonutrient HMRlignan™ with soy isoflavones has been studied for its potentially beneficial effects on human health.71 Black cohosh (Cimicifuga racemosa) is a North American perennial herb that has been used by Native American healers and American physicians alike for relief from hot flashes and other menopausal symptoms.72 Listed as an official drug in the U.S. Pharmacopoeia from 1820 to 1926, black cohosh has been rediscovered by research scientists and menopausal women.73,74 Several recent clinical trials of exacting randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled design have shown that black cohosh is effective in reducing the severity, duration, and incidence of hot flashes and night sweats.75-78 |
